  The word "nunchaku" is an Okinawan word, a compound of "nun" and "chiku", two wooden rods connected at one end with a short line. This is also the origin of the Chinese term "luo-han chieh", literally meaning "Mainland rod pair". In Chinese, this instrument is most commonly known as 雙節棍 (shuāngjiégùn) which means “double jointed rods”. The instrument derives from two earlier instruments of similar form, the staff (tufa) and the nantō. Nunchucks are a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon with a long and distinguished history in East Asian cultures. They consist of two sticks connected at an angle by a short chain, with one held on the end of each arm.   Nunchucks are a type of martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks connected, usually with a string or chain, used as an improvised striking and blocking tool. The nunchaku originated in Japan and first became popular worldwide after being featured in the movie Enter The Dragon. There are many variations of the original weapon— for instance, it can be held and swung around either by hand or attached to one's wrist, ankles, or neck in such a way that it becomes like an extra limb. They can also be found paired together with Kubota's as well as other weaponry like tonfa and sai to create what is called "No-Jitsu. It is now widespread in the martial arts community today.  They can be found with the black belt, and many people who train in Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Judo, Karate, Kung Fu, and Tai Chi also use them.
